Avis Balkcom-Williams, pianist, flutist, saxophononist, is originally from Bridgeport, Connecticut. After years of childhood piano lessons given by her piano-teacher mom, Avis moved to Washington, DC where she earned her B. Mus Ed. and M. Mus. degrees from Howard University. She has also completed one year of doctoral studies in piano performance at the University of Maryland, College Park.

At the present time Avis is a middle school band director, church musician and teaches piano, flute and saxophone lessons in her studio. She and her musician husband, Macon “Brom” Williams are the founders of the gospel group “Vocalpointe” who recently released the CD “Know Jesus.” They are raising four children and live in Upper Marlboro, MD.
